Montepulciano is a small city of Etruscan origin that stands 600 meters above sea level on a Tuscan land. This city is known for its main square, UNESCO site, and for the production of a worldwide famous wine – Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG. Surrounded by always green hills, olive groves and vineyards, the town offers you a breathtaking view of the two valleys between which it lays – Val D’Orcia and Valdichiana. One of the most beautiful squares in Italy is admittedly Piazza Grande, the monumental center of Montepulciano. Here you can find many prestigious buildings such as the Municipal Palace, Contucci Palace, Palace of Capitano del Popolo, in front of which is located the “Pozzo dei Grifi e dei Leoni” (well of griffins and lions) and the Duomo. Another must-see in Montepulciano is Palazzo Ricci, in the basement of which is located the Redi Winery, one of the oldest wineries in Tuscany, where the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is preserved. Outside the walls of the Old Town, there is the Church of San Biagio, which is a renaissance masterpiece by Antonio da Sangallo. Due to its artistic and scenic beauty, Montepulciano has been chosen as a set for such movies as “Life is beautiful”, “Twilight”, “Under the Tuscan sun”, and the most recent Dolce&Gabbana commercial.
