Città Della Pieve is located in the western part of Umbria, dominating Lake Trasimeno and Valdichiana. Even though the town is quite small, it represents strong cultural and historic value and is the hometown of one of the most important painters of the Italian Renaissance, Pietro Vannucci, called “Il Perugino”. The city has the shape of an eagle. Three parts of the eagle correspond to three “Terzieri” (the administrative subdivisions of the city): Terziere Castello, Terziere Borgo Dentro and Terziere Casalino. One of the most important places to visit is the Cathedral of Saints Gervasio and Protasio that preserves the works of two important painters, Il Perugino and Pomarancio. Another sight to see is the church of Santa Maria dei Bianchi, which contains the beautiful “Adoration of the Magi” by Perugino. Of great value are also the Rocca of 1326, Palazzo Della Corgna and Palazzo Baglioni. You should not miss “Vicolo Baciadonne” along via Vannucci, which is considered to be the narrowest alley in Italy for its width that varies from 50 to 60 centimeters. The town is also known for one of the country’s culinary excellence – saffron, that has been growing on these lands since 1279.
