Castiglione del Lago is a small town situated on the western shore of Trasimeno Lake. The historical center is surrounded by a Medieval wall with three historic gates: “Perugina”, “Senese” and “Fiorentina”. On the eastern part of Castiglione del Lago rises the “Lion Fortress” (Rocca del Leone) that was built in 1247. It has a triangular tower of 30 meters high, which opens a great view on Lake Trasimeno. Another attraction of high cultural value is Palazzo della Corgna, built in 1560, where you can find such masterpieces as frescoes by Nicolò Circignani, known as “Pomarancio”, and mythological scenes and exploits of Captain Ascanio Della Corgna, authored by Salvio Savini. Some other sights that definitely worth your attention are: the Church of Santa Maria Maddalena, the Church of San Domenico Di Guzman, the palace of Capitano del Popolo of the XIII century and the main square of the town, Piazza Mazzini.
